Professional Background
Nancy Buckwalter received a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983. She began her professional work in the health care field. Initially she worked in substance abuse treatment. She spent seven years in a medical setting counseling patients and families facing chronic and terminal illness. She then served as coordinator of the STRIDE (Students Taking Responsibility in Drug Education), a pilot substance abuse prevention program in North Philadelphia. From 1992 to 2003 Nancy left the workforce to raise her children and continued professional training. In 2003 she completed a Child and Adolescent Certification from Bryn Mawr College and began work in community drug and alcohol prevention in Montgomery County.
In 2004 Nancy began a private practice in Chester County treating adolescents and adults providing both individual and marital therapy. She completed Level 1 and Level 2 EMDR training and was certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing in 2006. She holds a SAP (Substance Abuse Professionals) certification and provides evaluations for the PA Department of Transportation. She completed a postgraduate training program in Postpartum Depression in 2008. She continues training in marital therapy with a particular emphasis on emotionally focused therapy.
Nancy volunteers for the Chester County Critical Incident Stress Management team providing support to emergency service providers. She holds a clinical social work license in the state of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the PA Society for Clinical Social Workers and NADAAC, the association for addiction professionals.
